Fire on rear porch of three-story duplex runs to the roof.
Firefighters in Boston’s District 7 responded to Box 2445 for a structure fire that eventually went to three alarms due to extension as well as the oppressive weather.
Investigators determined that a carelessly disposed cigarette was the cause for yesterday’s three-alarm fire on Columbus Avenue in Roxbury. Engine 42 called for the second alarm as the fire worked its way underneath the rubber membrane roof. Due to the fire’s progression, subsequent overhaul and the high temperatures, the Division 2 chief called for the third alarm as well as special called two ladder companies for overhaul. Two additional engines and ladders were later assigned to the box on the detail.
The Boston Fire Department, as well as Boston EMS’ Special Operations, provided rehab at the scene. There were no reported firefighter injuries despite temperatures reported in the 100-degree range.
